The fiber selection for a putting green is different from residential lawn turf. Polyethylene fiber is adequate for a lawn application, but a putting surface benefits from nylon fiber, which has higher pile memory and returns to its upright position after foot compression more consistently than PE. In the upper Texas coast environment, this matters because the combination of heat and humidity that persists from May through October puts significant stress on pile fiber — PE fiber that lies flat after foot traffic creates inconsistent ball roll that degrades the playability of the green. Nylon holds its pile geometry better in this thermal environment.
The base for a putting green needs more precise grading than a standard lawn install. We crown the base from a high point at the green's designated pin locations outward toward the perimeter, creating the drainage gradient while also establishing the contoured playable surface. The crown height is calibrated to the desired break on the green — more aggressive contouring for a more challenging surface, flatter for a beginner-friendly installation. In both cases, the surface gradient doubles as the drainage design.
For upper-coast locations in the industrial air-shed zone, the hardware and adhesive specifications follow the same logic as residential and commercial work: epoxy adhesive for any coastal or industrial-corridor location, stainless hardware for marine-grade exposure zones. A putting green seam that fails in year three because of chloride-driven adhesive degradation eliminates any claim to a premium installation.
